California: Global pop sensation Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the technology giant of using her photograph on television packaging in the United States without her consent.
According to court documents filed in a California federal court, the singer alleges that Samsung used a photograph from her 2024 performance at the Austin City Limits Music Festival to promote television sales and attract consumer attention.
The legal complaint claims the image was commercially exploited despite the absence of any licensing agreement or authorisation from the artist or her representatives. Dua Lipa’s legal team argues that the photograph is protected intellectual property and that repeated requests demanding its removal were allegedly ignored by the company.
The lawsuit includes allegations of copyright infringement, trademark infringement and misappropriation of likeness. Her attorneys contend that Samsung intentionally leveraged the singer’s global fame and commercial influence to enhance the market appeal of its products.
Court filings state that the packaging was designed to capitalise on Dua Lipa’s popularity and public image, with lawyers arguing that her recognisable presence added promotional value to the televisions being sold.
The controversy reportedly intensified after social media users began posting images of the packaging online. Some fans jokingly referred to the product as the “Dua Lipa TV Box,” while others commented that her image alone made the televisions more desirable. The lawsuit cites several online reactions as examples of the commercial impact allegedly created by the singer’s likeness.

According to the complaint, Dua Lipa first became aware of the issue in June 2025 after fans shared photographs of the packaging across social media platforms. Her legal representatives claim that Samsung failed to adequately respond to cease-and-desist notices requesting the immediate removal of the image.
The filing also highlights the singer’s substantial global brand value and her partnerships with major luxury and lifestyle companies, including Puma, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Apple, Porsche, Chanel and Nespresso. Her legal team argues that unauthorised commercial use of her image could potentially weaken the exclusivity and value of these endorsement relationships.
Dua Lipa remains one of the world’s most influential music stars following the release of her 2024 album Radical Optimism. Through the lawsuit, the singer is seeking financial damages as well as legal action aimed at preventing any further alleged misuse of her image.
Neither Samsung nor representatives for Dua Lipa have publicly commented on the legal dispute so far.
