Lucknow/Greater Noida – The Skill India 2025–26 National Skills Competition was inaugurated with grandeur and enthusiasm at Gautam Buddha University, bringing together 650 participants from across India to compete in 63 diverse skill categories, representing 36 states and union territories.
Addressing the gathering, Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, highlighted that skilling is a continuous process developed through practice, dedication, and self-improvement. Appreciating the participants, she stated that reaching this stage is an achievement in itself and all competitors are “Skill Icons”. She emphasized that skill development forms the foundation of national growth, and the energy of India’s youth will position the country globally as a “Skill Nation.”
Manisha Sharma, Senior Advisor at MSD&E, noted that India currently ranks 13th globally and 8th in Asia in the World Skills Ranking. She underlined that skilling, re-skilling, and up-skilling are essential to prepare the youth for the future.
The event commenced with an opening address by Arun Kumar Pillai, CEO of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), who encouraged participants to strive for excellence, describing skill development as the cornerstone of India’s progress.
Teams from various states performed an impressive march past, symbolizing the spirit of “One India, Best India”, while cultural performances added excitement and vibrancy to the occasion.

A key highlight was the oath-taking ceremony, where participants from the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission, led by Sadhana, pledged to compete with integrity, fairness, and complete dedication.
Other dignitaries in attendance included Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, Principal Secretary SEED, Assam, and R.P. Singh, Vice Chancellor, Gautam Buddha University.
Concluding the event, Prashant Sinha, Chief Operating Officer, NSDC, thanked the guests, participants, and partner institutions, stating that the competition will pave the way for a new era in India’s skill development journey.
