UP Agriculture Minister Urges Uninterrupted Availability of Seeds and Fertilizers

Lucknow – Suryapratap Shahi, Uttar Pradesh Minister of Agriculture, Agricultural Education, and Research, has stressed the need to ensure seamless availability of seeds and fertilizers for farmers across the state. Addressing a high-level review meeting via video conferencing with all Joint Directors, Deputy Directors, and District Agriculture Officers, the minister assessed the Rabi 2025–26 targets, financial progress, and the current status of fertilizer and seed distribution.

Shahi assured that sufficient stocks of urea and quality seeds are currently available and emphasized that farmers should face no inconvenience during distribution. He issued a stern warning that any negligence, corruption, or lapses in monitoring would lead to strict accountability for responsible officers.

The minister expressed concern over unusually high fertilizer sales in districts including Hathras, Kheri, Ballia, Etah, Aligarh, Chandauli, Kannauj, Badaun, and Sonbhadra, directing officials to maintain continuous oversight. He warned that failure to properly monitor fertilizer sales and stock would result in personal accountability.

As of March 30, 2026, the state has ensured 51.15 lakh metric tons of urea, of which 39.94 lakh metric tons have been purchased by farmers, marking a 24% increase in March sales. Similarly, 12.48 lakh metric tons of DAP have been sold out of 17.59 lakh metric tons available, leaving 11.21 lakh metric tons of urea and 5.11 lakh metric tons of DAP in stock for distribution.

The minister also instructed officials to complete the distribution of remaining seeds and verification of agricultural machinery by March 31. Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, insurance coverage for 18.78 lakh farmers for the Rabi 2025–26 season was reviewed, alongside accelerated installation of automatic weather stations and rain gauges under the WINDS scheme. Officials were directed to expedite the Farmer Registry registration in underperforming districts to ensure transparent access to government schemes.

Shahi further directed the PCF and Cooperative Department officials to monitor fertilizer supply racks and mandate availability boards at cooperative societies. He affirmed that the state government remains fully committed to providing farmers timely and quality agricultural inputs.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Cooperation Ajay Kumar Shukla, Commissioner & Registrar, Cooperation Yogesh Kumar, Managing Director, PCF Dr. Chandra Bhushan, Director of Agriculture Dr. Pankaj Tripathi, and other senior officials.
