World Tuberculosis Day Observed at AIIMS Raebareli with Focus on Awareness and Early Diagnosis

Raebareli: World Tuberculosis Day was observed at AIIMS Raebareli with a scientific and educational programme organized by its Department of Microbiology. The day commemorates the discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis by Robert Koch in 1882 and highlights global efforts to eliminate the disease.

This year’s theme, “Yes! We Can End TB,” underscored the global commitment to eradicating tuberculosis through awareness, early detection, and effective treatment.

Inauguration and Key Participation

The programme was inaugurated by Executive Director Prof. Amita Jain. Prominent attendees included Prof. Neeraj Kumari, Col. U. N. Rai, Dr. Neeraj Kumar Srivastava, Dr. Sana Islahi, Dr. Pramod Kumar, and Dr. Shweta Singh, along with resident doctors, nursing officers, hospital staff, patients, and their attendants.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Amita Jain emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, timely treatment, and sustained awareness in controlling tuberculosis.

Scientific Sessions and Discussions

The programme featured a series of scientific sessions focusing on key aspects of TB, including recent advances in diagnosis, sample collection techniques, detection of drug-resistant TB, and updated guidelines by the World Health Organization for TB management.

Community Outreach Initiatives

As part of outreach activities, the Department of Community Medicine and Public Health conducted awareness and health education programmes at two locations. At the Old OPD premises, MBBS interns engaged patients and attendants through street plays and interactive sessions, spreading awareness about TB symptoms, prevention, and treatment.

Head of Department Dr. Bhola Nath interacted with the public and stressed the importance of early detection and completion of treatment for full recovery.

A second outreach programme was held in Dariyapur village, involving participation from village representatives, health workers, teachers, and community members. Stakeholder discussions focused on strengthening community participation in TB control, ensuring early diagnosis, and improving treatment adherence.

Emphasis on Nutrition and Public Participation

During the health education sessions, Dr. Neeraj Pawar highlighted the critical role of nutrition in TB management and recovery. He urged the public to actively participate in awareness and eradication efforts.

The observance at AIIMS Raebareli reinforced the message that collective action, awareness, and timely medical intervention are essential to achieving a TB-free future.
