Bareilly: Authorities in Bareilly carried out a joint enforcement drive against individuals allegedly involved in illegal money collection and misleading the public outside the regional transport office.
According to Pravesh Kumar Saroj, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (Administration), complaints were received from multiple sources that some unauthorized persons were operating outside the premises of the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department office. These individuals were reportedly misguiding citizens and collecting money illegally in the name of vehicle-related services while also creating encroachments that caused traffic congestion near the office.
Taking the matter seriously, the transport department coordinated with the local police administration and informed the Circle Officer (City) about the issue. Subsequently, a joint operation was conducted with police support.
During the drive, temporary stalls and shops set up illegally outside the transport office were removed, and various forms and materials kept there were seized or cleared. Officials said the action was taken to prevent people from being misled and to curb any illegal activities being carried out in the name of transport services.
The transport department also informed that 14 services are currently being provided through a “faceless” system, meaning applicants do not need to visit the office physically. Citizens can avail these services online from home or through nearby Common Service Centres.

Officials urged the public not to approach unauthorized agents or middlemen for transport-related work and to rely only on official online portals or departmental procedures. If anyone demands money illegally in the name of the transport department, citizens have been advised to immediately report the matter to the concerned authorities so that legal action can be taken.
The department reiterated its commitment to providing transparent, efficient and citizen-friendly services, adding that strict action against such illegal practices will continue in the future.
