India Stands Firmly with Israel: PM Narendra Modi Addresses Knesset, Condemns Hamas Attack

Tel Aviv: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reaffirmed India’s unwavering support for Israel while addressing the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset, in Tel Aviv. Speaking amid chants of “Modi-Modi” and “Jai Hind,” the Prime Minister said that India stands firmly with Israel in the aftermath of the Hamas attack and that “your pain is our pain.”

Beginning his address with a traditional “Namaste,” PM Modi said it was a matter of great honour to stand in the prestigious House as the Prime Minister of India and as a representative of one of the world’s most ancient civilizations. He conveyed the greetings and goodwill of 1.4 billion Indians to the people of Israel.

‘Nothing Can Justify Terrorism’

Condemning terrorism in the strongest terms, PM Modi stated that no cause can ever justify acts of terror. Referring to the recent Hamas attack on Israel, he said India fully understands the trauma of terrorism, having suffered from it for decades. He recalled the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, in which several Israeli citizens were among those killed.

“After those attacks, India adopted a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism. We stand shoulder to shoulder with Israel in the fight against this global menace,” he said.

‘Fatherland and Motherland’

In an emotional reference, PM Modi described Israel as the “Fatherland” and India as the “Motherland,” saying both nations take pride in their civilizational heritage. He also highlighted the shared historical bonds between the two countries.

Recalling World War I, the Prime Minister paid tribute to thousands of Indian soldiers who laid down their lives in the region. He particularly mentioned Major Dalpat Singh, describing him as the “Hero of Haifa,” a tribute to Indian soldiers who fought in the Battle of Haifa in 1918.

Unique Connection with Israel’s Recognition

PM Modi noted a special personal connection with Israel, revealing that he was born on the same day India officially recognized the State of Israel in 1950. He also pointed out that during his previous visit, he became the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Knesset.

“This is my second visit, and seeing the Knesset illuminated in the colours of India reflects the deep bonds between our nations,” he said.

Standing Ovation and Warm Welcome

The Prime Minister received a standing ovation in the Knesset, with members rising to welcome him. Israeli leaders praised his leadership and referred to him as an inspiration to millions. The Israeli Speaker lauded PM Modi for laying the foundation of digital innovation in India and transforming millions of lives.

Slogans of “Jai Hind” and “Bharat Zindabad” echoed in the chamber as PM Modi delivered his speech.

Netanyahu Calls Modi ‘My Dear Friend’ and ‘Brother’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warmly welcomed PM Modi, referring to him as “my dear friend” and a “great leader.” He said that their personal friendship has significantly strengthened ties between India and Israel.

Recalling their previous visit together along the Mediterranean coast, Netanyahu said, “Prime Minister Modi and I have performed many miracles together.” He added that Indian soldiers’ sacrifices for Israel would never be forgotten.

Netanyahu also spoke about the famous “Modi hug,” saying the warm embrace shared between the two leaders symbolizes genuine friendship and trust. “When Prime Minister Modi hugs you, you know it is real,” he said, drawing applause from lawmakers.

Calling PM Modi “more than a friend, like a brother,” Netanyahu emphasized the deep-rooted people-to-people ties between the two countries.

Grand Reception in Tel Aviv

Earlier in the day, PM Modi received a grand welcome upon his arrival at a hotel in Tel Aviv. Israeli and Indian-origin artists presented vibrant cultural performances, blending traditional Indian and Israeli elements. Members of the Indian diaspora gathered in large numbers to greet the Prime Minister enthusiastically.

The visit is being seen as a strong message of solidarity and strategic partnership at a time of regional tension. Analysts believe the Prime Minister’s address to the Knesset underscores India’s firm position against terrorism and its growing strategic engagement with Israel across defense, technology, and innovation sectors.

As global geopolitical dynamics continue to evolve, PM Modi’s message from Tel Aviv signals that India remains committed to standing by its partners in the fight against terrorism and in building a secure and prosperous future.
