New Delhi: Indian badminton icon and two-time Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu has been appointed Chair of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Athletes’ Commission for the 2026–29 term, marking a significant global honour for the star shuttler. With this appointment, Sindhu will also serve as a member of the BWF Council, strengthening athlete representation in global badminton governance and policymaking.
Sindhu, the 2019 World Champion, has been associated with the BWF Athletes’ Commission since 2017 and has also served as a BWF Integrity Ambassador since 2020. Her elevation reflects her experience, leadership and influence within the international badminton community. Hong Kong China’s Chan Ho Yuen Daniel has been appointed Chair of the Para Badminton Athletes’ Commission.

Reacting to her appointment, Sindhu said she accepted the role with a deep sense of responsibility and purpose. She emphasized that her priority would be to ensure athletes’ voices are heard clearly, consistently and respectfully at every level, acting as a bridge between players and administrators. She also thanked former Chair Gracia Polii for her contributions.

Netherlands’ Debora Jille will serve as Deputy Chair, with South Korea’s An Se Young, Egypt’s Doha Hany and China’s Jia Yi Fan among the athlete representatives. In para badminton, Denmark’s Catherine Rosengren will be Deputy Chair alongside members from the USA, France, India and Egypt. Sindhu’s appointment further reinforces India’s growing influence in global sports administration.
