Congress Reacts to Appointment of Pankaj Chaudhary as BJP State President

Lucknow: Reacting to the appointment of Pankaj Chaudhary as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Uttar Pradesh state president, Congress spokesperson Anshu Awasthi  alleged that the BJP’s “anti-backward class character” has repeatedly come to the fore.

Awasthi said that issues such as caste census and social justice, raised by the Congress and Rahul Gandhi to ensure the welfare, empowerment and proper representation of backward communities, have been met with silence by the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He claimed that despite these issues directly impacting the lives of backward classes, the ruling party has consistently avoided taking a clear stand.

Commenting on the swearing-in ceremony, the Congress spokesperson pointed out that former BJP state president Swatantra Dev Singh, who also belongs to the Kurmi community, did not get a position. “This clearly exposes the BJP’s real approach, which the public has now understood,” Awasthi alleged.

Using a sharp analogy, Awasthi said the BJP’s actions reflect the saying, “After eating a hundred mice, the cat goes on a pilgrimage,” accusing the party of attempting to project concern for backward communities without taking meaningful steps to ensure social justice.

He asserted that people are increasingly aware of what he described as the BJP’s double standards and said the Congress would continue to raise issues of caste census, social equality and representation of backward classes across the country.
