Lucknow University’s Legal Aid Centre Conducts Constitution Day Slum Outreach in Aliganj

Lucknow: The Legal Aid Centre of the Faculty of Law, University of Lucknow, under the aegis of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), organised a community outreach visit to a slum area near Kendriya Vidyalaya, Aliganj, in collaboration with Swapna Foundation to mark Constitution Day. The initiative was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. R. K. Verma, Head & Dean, Faculty of Law, and Prof. Dr. Abhishek Kumar Tiwari, Chairman, Legal Aid Centre.

The programme aimed to achieve two key objectives—spreading awareness about Fundamental Rights and Duties and conducting a winter clothes donation drive. Emphasising that constitutional awareness must begin early, volunteers engaged children in an interactive workshop that introduced them to their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

Speakers from the Legal Aid Centre covered essential constitutional provisions in simple and relatable terms.

  • Anushka Singh explained the Right to Equality (Articles 14–18).
  • Nikhil Chauhan elaborated on the Right to Freedom (Articles 19–22).
  • Anushri Bharati discussed the Right Against Exploitation and Freedom of Religion.
  • Subham Saini highlighted Cultural and Educational Rights and the Right to Constitutional Remedies.
  • Kavita Yadav spoke about Fundamental Duties, encouraging children to uphold national values.

Using storytelling and real-life examples, the team ensured meaningful engagement with the young audience.

The second part of the visit involved distributing winter clothes, blankets, and essentials to underprivileged families. Members of the Legal Aid Centre, community volunteers, and children participated in the donation drive aimed at supporting residents during the harsh winter months.

Additionally, Ms. Anjasi Mishra informed women about welfare and women-centric government schemes such as the One Stop Centre Scheme, Ujjwala Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, PM Jan Dhan Yojana, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, and MGNREGA.

Expressing gratitude for the community’s hospitality, the Centre reaffirmed its commitment to social welfare, legal awareness, and sustainable development through continued engagement and collaborative outreach.
