Ayodhya Transforms into a Smart City Ahead of Flag Hoisting Under CM Yogi’s Leadership

Solar City Vision, High-Tech Security & Green Development Redefine the Temple Town

Lucknow: Under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Ayodhya is rapidly transforming into one of India’s most advanced smart cities. Ahead of the grand flag-hoisting ceremony, the holy city is witnessing large-scale urban upgrades powered by renewable energy, cutting-edge technology, and green infrastructure.

Ayodhya is being reshaped with a special focus on solar power, climate-sensitive planning, and digital innovation. Security measures have been significantly strengthened with the installation of 1,200 CCTV cameras across the city to monitor suspicious movement and ensure seamless crowd management. Officials say that in the coming years, Ayodhya’s model of development will set new benchmarks globally for spiritual tourism and sustainable urban growth.

Solar-Powered Smart City: Returning Ayodhya to Its Identity as ‘Suryanagari’

Ayodhya is reclaiming its ancient identity as the “City of the Sun” through widespread use of solar power and green technology. The city has been declared a Model Solar City under the Uttar Pradesh Solar Energy Policy 2022.

A 40 MW solar power plant, set up by NTPC Green Energy Ltd. on 165 hectares along the Saryu river, now meets 25–30% of Ayodhya’s electricity needs, signaling a major shift towards energy self-reliance and clean power. The plant operates on a 30-year lease of government land and is emerging as a national example of large-scale renewable adoption.

High-Tech Greenfield Township to Redefine Modern Ayodhya

A state-of-the-art Greenfield Township, being developed on 550 acres under the ‘Navya Ayodhya’ plan, is among Uttar Pradesh’s most futuristic urban projects. Built with both ecological and technological priorities, the township includes:

  • Underground drainage and electrical duct systems costing ₹218 crore
  • A 200-acre green zone
  • A super-specialty medical centre
  • A high-tech park and wellness hub

The township will offer world-class living and tourism experiences, positioning Ayodhya as a model for sustainable urban development.

Technological Innovation Boosts Tourism Appeal

Ayodhya’s growth plan integrates cultural heritage with digital innovation, including:

  • Museum of Temples
  • Vedic Forest
  • Digital Virtual Darshan facilities
  • Climate-resilient safety initiatives

These projects collectively strengthen Ayodhya’s emergence as a global centre for spiritual tourism, health security and green development. The city currently ranks first among Uttar Pradesh’s 17 smart cities, reflecting its fast-paced transformation.

Green Initiatives: EV Push, Miyawaki Forests & Solar Expansion

The Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) is implementing a series of eco-friendly initiatives:

  • A dedicated Green Fund to plant 15,000 saplings at 75 sites using the Miyawaki technique
  • EV infrastructure expansion with 13 public EV charging stations, of which 10 are already operational, in collaboration with Tata Power, Reliance, and Adani Group
  • Strengthening of renewable energy installations across the city

These measures underline Ayodhya’s commitment to becoming a future-ready, sustainable metropolis.

A City on the Rise

The synergy of government planning, green energy adoption, and modern urban design is rapidly shaping Ayodhya into a world-class smart city. With improved infrastructure, strengthened security, eco-friendly policies, and visionary projects, Ayodhya is emerging as a trusted, attractive, and culturally vibrant destination for tourists from India and abroad.

As the city marches toward its Smart City 2031 vision, Ayodhya stands as a symbol of how heritage, technology, and sustainability can come together to create a transformative urban model for the future.
