Viksit UP @2047: A New Uttar Pradesh, Defeating Disasters and Eliminating Poverty

Lucknow– Uttar Pradesh is gearing up for a major transformation under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision “Viksit UP @2047.” The state aims to ensure every citizen lives a safe and prosperous life by building world-class disaster management systems and eradicating poverty, while targeting a $6 trillion economy by 2047.

Disaster Management: Technology-Driven Approach
In a first for any state in India, Uttar Pradesh is preparing to launch its own satellite in collaboration with ISRO to strengthen disaster management. The satellite will provide real-time updates on floods, earthquakes, and heatwaves, enabling faster relief and rescue operations.

With rising climate challenges, city-specific Heat Action Plans (HAPs) have already been implemented in Lucknow, Agra, and Varanasi, with Kanpur and Prayagraj set to follow soon. Experts from IITs, AIIMS, and KGMU are supporting these measures. Beyond heatwaves, the state is also addressing earthquake, fire, and chemical disaster preparedness through comprehensive risk assessments and regular mock drills in schools, hospitals, factories, malls, and railway complexes. Notably, 34 districts have been identified as earthquake-sensitive zones.

Poverty Reduction: Millions Lifted Out of Poverty
The state has achieved remarkable progress in poverty eradication. According to the National Multidimensional Poverty Report 2022-23, Uttar Pradesh recorded a sharp 20.28-point drop in its poverty rate since 2015-16, outperforming the national average of 13.57 points. Over the past eight and a half years, nearly 60 million people have been lifted above the poverty line through effective implementation of welfare schemes and the government’s inclusive development model. Improvements in healthcare, education, and living standards have played a pivotal role.

Economic Vision: $6 Trillion GSDP by 2047
The government has set an ambitious target to grow Uttar Pradesh’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) from the current $353 billion to $6 trillion by 2047—nearly 20% of India’s projected GDP. This requires sustaining an annual growth rate of around 16%. Milestones include reaching $1 trillion by 2030, $2 trillion by 2036, and finally $6 trillion by 2047. Per capita income is projected to rise to ₹26 lakh, achieving the goal of “zero poverty.”

From Lagging to Leading
Before 2017, Uttar Pradesh lagged in both disaster preparedness and economic prosperity. Disaster management lacked a concrete framework, and welfare schemes often failed to reach the last mile. In contrast, the last eight years have witnessed decisive governance, transparency, and the use of technology, placing the state on a trajectory of rapid growth and resilience.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath underlined that “Viksit UP” is not just about economic growth but about building a strong foundation in disaster management, poverty elimination, and social security. The state’s vision is to ensure that by 2047, Uttar Pradesh emerges as a global leader in resilience, prosperity, and inclusive development.
