CM Yogi Inspects Sowa Rigpa Medical College in Varanasi, Distributes Flood Relief in Salarpur
Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath conducted a comprehensive visit to Varanasi today, where he inspected key development projects and oversaw humanitarian relief efforts.
During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected the under-construction Sowa Rigpa Medical College located within the campus of the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies in Sarnath. The medical college, being developed at a cost of Rs 93 crore through joint efforts of the Government of India and the Uttar Pradesh Government, will serve as a major center for traditional Tibetan medicine. The 100-bed facility will include six consultant rooms (including astrology consultation), a spacious waiting hall, state-of-the-art emergency and ICU units, operation theatres, indoor patient facilities, therapy units, a pharmacy, classrooms, a library, a museum, laboratories, a herbarium, and a ‘Nakshatra Shala’, among other amenities.
Sowa Rigpa, a centuries-old and highly regarded medical system that originated in Tibet, is now practiced across various regions including China, Mongolia, Russia, Nepal, and parts of India. Its theory and practice are rich in tradition and rooted in clinical methodology, with more than 10,000 published texts and thousands of related manuscripts.
Later in the day, CM Yogi visited Salarpur, where he distributed relief materials to families affected by recent floods. He directed officials to ensure that all necessary arrangements—accommodation, cleanliness, healthcare, food, and clean drinking water—were in place at the relief camps. “No one should suffer due to administrative negligence,” the CM emphasized.

The Chief Minister also inspected the nearly completed Sangeet Pathway located near the Central Jail in Shivpur. The 1.5-kilometre long, 15-feet wide musical corridor, built parallel to the jail wall from Phulwaria Tiraha, is 90% complete. The pathway showcases portraits and biographies of renowned musicians from the Banaras Gharana, along with installations of musical instruments like the shehnai and tabla.
Concluding his visit, the Chief Minister offered prayers at the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the Shri Kal Bhairav Temple, paying homage to the spiritual essence of the city.
The CM was accompanied by Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, Labour and Employment Minister Anil Rajbhar, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Stamp, Court Fees and Registration Ravindra Jaiswal, and other public representatives and senior government officials.
