AAP Women’s Wing Chief Neelam Yadav Detained While Attempting to Meet Family of 8-Year-Old Victim in Kaushambi

Lucknow : Tension flared in Uttar Pradesh  after Neelam Yadav, the State President of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Women’s Wing, was detained by Kaushambi police while she was en route to meet the family of an 8-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted in the district.

Yadav was leading an AAP delegation to express solidarity with the victim’s family and raise her voice against the growing incidents of crimes against women and children in the state. However, the police intercepted the delegation mid-route and escorted them to Kaushambi police headquarters, effectively preventing them from reaching the victim’s home.

“Yogi Government Shielding Criminals, Silencing Voices” – AAP

Speaking to the media, Neelam Yadav lashed out at the government, saying:

“Under Yogi Adityanath’s rule, heinous crimes are being committed against innocent girls. The police, instead of ensuring justice, is stopping us from even meeting the victim’s family. What kind of law and order is this?”

She was accompanied by AAP leaders Rekha Jaiswal, Priyanka Srivastava, and others, all of whom were reportedly taken into custody.

“Shocking Level of Autocracy” – Sanjay Singh Reacts

AAP Rajya Sabha MP and Uttar Pradesh in-charge Sanjay Singh condemned the move in a strongly worded post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“The Collector has ordered that Neelam Yadav and her team cannot meet the victim’s family. Is this democracy or dictatorship? This is absolute tyranny. Neelam Yadav has been arrested for trying to meet the family of an 8-year-old rape survivor. Unbelievable!”

AAP Demands Action, Not Suppression

The Aam Aadmi Party has demanded accountability from the state administration and called for immediate justice for the child and her family. The party accused the Uttar Pradesh government of suppressing opposition voices instead of addressing growing concerns over women’s safety.

The incident adds to a series of confrontations between political parties and the Yogi government, particularly around law enforcement transparency and gender-based violence in the state.
