New Delhi — National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Beijing, reaffirming India’s stance on combating terrorism in all its forms and stressing the importance of maintaining regional peace and stability.
The two leaders discussed a broad range of issues concerning India-China bilateral relations and agreed on strengthening diplomatic and strategic ties. The meeting comes as part of renewed efforts by both nations to rebuild trust and cooperation after years of strained relations, particularly following the Ladakh border standoff.
Joint Stand Against Terrorism
During the meeting, Doval firmly stated that a collective approach to fighting terrorism is essential for peace and stability in the region. The Ministry of External Affairs noted that Doval emphasized the importance of jointly addressing terrorism, especially at a time when regional security faces numerous challenges.
His remarks follow India’s recent counter-terror operations in Pakistan in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which destroyed multiple terror infrastructure sites. “Maintaining border peace and firmly countering terrorism must go hand in hand,” Doval said.
Resetting India-China Relations
The talks also touched upon recent developments in India-China relations. Both sides reiterated the need to enhance people-to-people exchanges, resume diplomatic momentum, and restore trust. The two nations acknowledged the necessity of dialogue in resolving ongoing border disputes, particularly along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that Beijing is ready to implement the consensus reached by the top leaders of both countries and expressed willingness to bring bilateral ties back on track.
LAC Standoff and Way Forward
India has consistently maintained that returning to the pre-April 2020 status quo is crucial for any substantial progress in bilateral ties. The meeting is being seen as part of ongoing efforts to resolve the LAC conflict and reinforce strategic stability between the two Asian giants.
With global and regional dynamics evolving rapidly, both sides appear keen to avoid prolonged tension and are exploring diplomatic solutions to long-pending issues.
