Future Grandmaster Chess Series Kicks Off with Grandeur at DPS Sitapur

Sitapur: The highly anticipated first phase of the Future Grandmaster Chess Series began today at Delhi Public School, Sitapur, amid a vibrant and proud atmosphere. The prestigious international-rated tournament was inaugurated by All India Chess Federation Vice President A.K. Raizada, who made the ceremonial first move on the chessboard.

The grand opening ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from the school’s management, principal, faculty members, players, parents, and students. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Raizada emphasized the broader impact of such events, stating,
“Tournaments like these not only offer a platform to young talents but also foster mental development, focus, and strategic thinking in children.”

The tournament features eight rounds and has drawn 131 participants, including one International Master and 42 internationally rated players. In the opening round, all eyes were on the first board, where International Master Aryan Varshney faced Lucknow’s Atharv Sahu. They played the Ragozin Defense within the Queen’s Gambit Declined framework. Aryan, showcasing his experience, gained an early advantage by capturing two pawns in just 20 moves and went on to secure a win in 51 moves.

All top-seeded players won their respective games in the first round, securing one point each and moving into the next round in joint lead.

This multi-phase chess series aims to nurture young talents and prepare them for international-level competition.

On the occasion, Sitapur Shiksha Sansthan Chairperson Tanushree Mehrotra extended her best wishes to all participants, noting,
“Competitions like this are vital for the all-round development of students.”

The tournament is being conducted under the guidance of the Uttar Pradesh Chess Association, with a strong focus on fairness and quality of play.
