Barcelona: Norway’s Casper Ruud reached the quarter-finals of the Barcelona Open with his 26th win of the season by defeating Jordan Thompson 6-1, 6-4.
With his win, third-seeded Ruud moved ahead of Jannik Sinner for most tour-level wins in 2024.
Ruud took a 5-0 lead early on and never looked back. According to ATP reports, he served out the opening set before getting a decisive break in the seventh game of the second set and eventually won in 73 minutes.
Ruud, a Norwegian who has already reached three finals this year (Los Cabos, Acapulco, Monte-Carlo), will next face Matteo Arnoldi, who earlier defeated Marco Trungelliti 6-3, 6-0 to reach his last-eight stage.
