Mumbai: Speculation over Hardik Pandya’s future with Mumbai Indians has resurfaced ahead of the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season, with reports suggesting that a possible trade involving Rajasthan Royals batter Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently on hold.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the two franchises explored the possibility of exchanging the players a few months ago, but the discussions did not result in an agreement. Neither Mumbai Indians nor Rajasthan Royals has officially confirmed a deal, and the reported negotiations are not currently active.

The proposed exchange attracted attention because both players could address different squad requirements. Pandya is an experienced all-rounder who contributes with both bat and ball, while Jaiswal is an aggressive top-order batter known for his attacking approach during the powerplay.
Jaiswal could strengthen Mumbai Indians’ opening combination alongside Rohit Sharma, offering another established Indian batter at the top of the order. For Rajasthan Royals, Pandya’s all-round abilities could provide additional flexibility in team selection and balance.
Rajasthan also has other potential opening options, including young batters Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Lhuan-dre Pretorius. However, the availability of alternatives does not necessarily indicate that the franchise is prepared to part ways with Jaiswal.

Rajasthan Royals have previously undertaken major squad changes through player trades. Ahead of the 2026 season, the franchise traded Sanju Samson to Chennai Super Kings in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. However, that precedent does not establish whether another high-profile exchange will take place.
Reports have also linked other IPL franchises, including Kolkata Knight Riders, with interest in Pandya, but no confirmed move has emerged.
The next retention announcements and trading-window developments could offer greater clarity on the players’ futures. For now, the proposed Pandya-Jaiswal exchange remains unconfirmed, with no official announcement from either franchise indicating that a deal has been finalised.
