Lalitpur Villages to Showcase the New Face of Jal Jeevan Mission at Maha Kumbh 2025
Lucknow/ Maha Kumbh Nagar – Visitors from across India and around the world, totaling an estimated 40-45 crore pilgrims, will witness a transformative shift in the rural landscape of Uttar Pradesh at Maha Kumbh 2025. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the ‘Swachh Sujal Gaon’ (Clean and Watered Village) theme will spotlight the state’s monumental achievements in providing tap water to every rural household as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission.
The story of Bundelkhand, once plagued by severe water scarcity, will also be featured at the Kumbh. Visitors will experience the profound change brought about since 2017, when the region transitioned from a water-starved area to one with every home now receiving a water supply. The village exhibition will be spread over 40,000 square feet and will display key infrastructural developments like PM Awas Yojana homes, CM Awas, gram panchayats, and solar-powered initiatives—offering a fresh, thriving story of Uttar Pradesh’s progress. This exhibition will not only showcase the state’s transformation but also make every pilgrim aware of the vibrant new identity of Uttar Pradesh.
Interactive Digital Corner for Public Engagement
In addition to physical displays, visitors will have the opportunity to explore a Digital Corner, where every citizen can access detailed information about water supply, availability, and distribution in their own village, ensuring transparency and accessibility. The Digital Zone will also offer a variety of language options (Hindi, English, Bengali, Telugu, and Marathi) for wider reach.
‘Swachh Sujal Gaon’ to Be Established from January 10 to February 26
Under the direction of the Yogi government, the ‘Swachh Sujal Gaon’ initiative will be set up during Maha Kumbh 2025, and will remain open to the public from January 10 to February 26. The exhibition will be based on the theme ‘Peyjal Ka Samadhan, Mere Gaon Ki Nayi Pehchaan’ (Water Solutions, New Identity of My Village). This village will highlight the evolution of Bundelkhand, once known for water scarcity, into a model for rural water supply. The exhibition will host various programs for 47 days, including a special platform for rural women from Bundelkhand to share their stories of change brought by clean water access.
In the past, many villages in Banda, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot districts suffered from water shortages, leading to social challenges such as delayed marriages. Women from Lalitpur and Mahoba, whose lives were marked by the grueling task of carrying water long distances, will narrate how access to clean drinking water has transformed their lives.
‘Jal Mandir’ to Send Strong Water Conservation Message
As part of the exhibit, the ‘Jal Mandir’ (Water Temple) will be erected, symbolizing the sacred nature of water. Through a divine portrayal of water flowing from Lord Shiva’s matted hair, the temple will deliver the message that water is a life-giving gift that must be protected. Special morning and evening water aartis (rituals) will highlight the importance of water conservation, while also promoting the achievements of the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Honoring Visitors with ‘Jal Prasad’ and Traditional Warmth
In keeping with the Indian tradition of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ (The guest is God), the Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Department will honor all visitors to the ‘Swachh Sujal Gaon’. Each guest will receive a ‘Jal Prasad’ (water offering) in eco-friendly jute bags. This package will include water from the Sangam, a Jal Jeevan Mission diary, and educational material about the success stories and transformation that clean water has brought to rural India.
Digital Gaming Zone to Educate on Water Benefits and Conservation
In the Digital Gaming Zone, visitors will engage in interactive games to learn about the benefits of clean drinking water and the dangers of contaminated water. These educational games will help individuals understand the importance of water conservation in a fun, informative way. Additionally, rural residents will have access to real-time data regarding the water situation in their villages through the Digital Corner, helping them stay informed about local water supply systems.
Maha Kumbh 2025 promises to be a significant milestone in showcasing Uttar Pradesh’s journey towards water security and rural development, giving a global platform to the state’s transformative initiatives.
