Young debaters at AGDC cast a spell with their knowledge

Lucknow:  Aditya Kumar Chaturvedi Memorial Debate was held under the aegis of Mission Shakti 5 at Avadh Girls’ Degree College, Lucknow.This inter-collegiate debate competition has been held every year since 2018 to commemorate the death anniversary of  Aditya Kumar Chaturvedi, former Principal of Post Graduate College of Balrampur and a Professor of English Literature.  Aditya Kumar Chaturvedi was awarded the prestigious Jai Shankar Prasad Award by Hindi Sansthanfor his poem “SitaNirvasan.” His motto of life, “Na dainyam Na palayanam” which means “Never pity yourself and never run away from problems” is an important life lesson which must be imbibed to lead a life of dignity and integrity.

The programme began with the lighting of the lamp. The judges for the event  Sharmishtha Sharma, senior journalist and an author of fifty one coffee table books and Prof. Vinod Chandra, Principal of Jai Narayan Mishra Post Graduate College, received a floral welcome.The debate competition saw the teams engage in a spirited discussion on the topic “Impact of Global Market Forces on India”. The affirmative participants presented compelling arguments, highlighting the factors making India a strong player in the global market. The participants who were against the motion challenged the claims made by their counterparts.

The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation from various esteemed educational institutions of the city namely Amity University, Lucknow Christian College, KhwajaMoinuddinChisti Language University, Avadh Girls’ Degree College, Karamat Hussain Muslim Girls Post Graduate College, Kalicharan Degree College, University of Lucknow, Jaipuria Institute of Management, NavyugKanyaMahavidyalaya, MahilaVidyalaya Degree College, KhunkhunjiGirls’ Degree College and BabasahebBhimraoAmbedkarUniversity.

The team from Avadh Girls’ Degree College stood first in the competition. The team from Lucknow Christian College secured the second position and the team from the University of Lucknow came third. Sanya Singh from Avadh Girls’ Degree College was declared the Best Speaker.

The debate competition showcased exceptional critical thinking, public speaking eloquence and insightful arguments based on factual information, which impressed the  judges. They lauded  the efforts of the students and praised the clarity and coherence of their arguments, and the depth of their  research.

The debate competition was organisedunder the able guidance of Prof. Upma Chaturvedi, Advisor of the Debating Club and co-advisors Dr. Mansi Shukla and  Shreya Dayal.
