Uttar Pradesh to Provide Free Professional AI Training to 1.5 Lakh Youth Under New Skill Development Initiative

Lucknow: In a major step toward preparing young people for the technology-driven jobs of the future, the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 1M1B Foundation and IBM SkillsBuild. The initiative aims to equip more than 1.5 lakh youth across the state with professional training in Artificial Intelligence (AI), emerging technologies, and green skills.

The partnership, facilitated under the guidance of UPSDM Mission Director Pulkit Khare, is designed to ensure that young people are not limited to traditional vocational skills but are also prepared for rapidly evolving digital and technology-based careers.

Under the agreement, over 1,000 training centers operating under UPSDM and the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) will provide free training to students and trainees across Uttar Pradesh. The curriculum will focus on Artificial Intelligence, digital competencies, emerging technologies, and sustainability-oriented green skills, helping participants align with future industry requirements.

Mega Job Fairs and Placement Drives Planned

Officials said the initiative is not limited to skill development alone. A key objective is to connect trained youth directly with employment opportunities through large-scale Mega Job Fairs and Placement Drives. Participants will be introduced to leading employers and industry representatives, creating pathways to meaningful employment.

During the training period, special employment engagement activities will be organized to help participants better understand workplace expectations, industry trends, and career opportunities. The program will also include interview preparation sessions and career readiness workshops covering communication skills, professional conduct, confidence building, and workplace etiquette.

According to UPSDM, the focus will be on enhancing employability and preparing young people to succeed in increasingly competitive work environments.

‘Skill + AI Intelligence’ Model

Speaking on the occasion, Mission Director Pulkit Khare emphasized the growing importance of technological literacy in today’s job market.

“Traditional skills alone are no longer sufficient. Young people must also develop a professional understanding of Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies. Through this partnership with 1M1B–IBM Skill Foundation, more than 1.5 lakh youth will receive free training aligned with future employment needs. Our ‘Skill + AI Intelligence’ model is designed to prepare them for jobs, career growth, and global opportunities,” he said.

Workshop on AI for Governance and Public Service

To mark the signing of the MoU, UPSDM organized a special workshop titled ‘AI for Public Service & Good Governance’ at its headquarters in Lucknow. Conducted in collaboration with 1M1B–IBM Skill Foundation, the workshop trained departmental officers and staff on the practical application of Artificial Intelligence in government services.

Participants were introduced to ways in which AI can modernize administrative processes, improve efficiency, and support better decision-making. Sessions included practical guidance on writing effective prompts, creating AI-enabled workflows, and using AI tools to prepare official correspondence, reports, and documents more efficiently.

The workshop also highlighted the role of AI in data analysis, policy implementation, and citizen engagement. Special emphasis was placed on AI agents capable of automating tasks and improving service delivery.

Experts stressed the importance of responsible AI adoption, focusing on data security, privacy protection, and ethical standards in public administration.

The event was attended by Additional Mission Director Pooja Mishra, Joint Director Mayank Gangwar, Assistant Directors M.K. Singh and Pavitra Tandon, along with other mission officials. Representatives from 1M1B, including Government Relationship Director Shivam Agrawal and Shubham Kapoor, were also present.

The initiative marks one of Uttar Pradesh’s most ambitious efforts to integrate advanced technology education into its skill development ecosystem, positioning the state’s youth for opportunities in the rapidly evolving digital economy.
