Lucknow: The historic 98-year-old building of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly is set to be replaced with a modern Parliament-style legislative complex as the Uttar Pradesh government moves forward with plans for a new state assembly campus in Lucknow.
The current Assembly building, inaugurated on February 21, 1928, has long been regarded as an architectural landmark. However, officials say the existing infrastructure has become inadequate to meet the administrative and technological needs of a rapidly growing state.
The proposed new legislative complex will be developed in the Sahara City area of Gomti Nagar at an estimated cost of around ₹100 crore. The project is being planned on nearly 245 acres of land, including 170 acres belonging to the municipal corporation and 75 acres under the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA).
According to officials, the land had originally been leased to Sahara India in 1994. The administration sealed the property in September 2025 and later vacated it in October 2025, paving the way for redevelopment.
The LDA has already initiated the process of selecting consultants and architects for the design and planning of the new Vidhan Bhavan complex. Tenders have been issued, and interested firms can submit applications between May 23 and June 21, 2026.
Officials said the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared after the consultant selection process is completed. The DPR will determine the final construction cost, design specifications, and project timeline. Authorities expect construction work to begin later this year.
LDA Vice Chairman Prathamesh Kumar said the planning process would begin immediately after the appointment of consultants and architects. Preliminary technical preparations and land measurements for the project have already been completed.

The proposed complex is expected to be one of the most advanced legislative campuses in the country and will be developed on the lines of the new Parliament House in New Delhi.
Apart from the new Assembly building, the campus will also house the Legislative Council, the Chief Minister’s official residence and office, chambers for ministers and legislators, administrative offices, and a modern Secretariat complex.
Officials said the entire campus is being envisioned as a fully digital “e-Vidhan Sabha,” where legislative and administrative operations will function in a paperless environment supported by advanced technology infrastructure.
The project blueprint also includes extensive parking facilities, enhanced security systems, green belts, landscaped open areas, and modern civic infrastructure aimed at creating a sustainable and efficient administrative hub.
For planning and DPR preparation, the LDA has signed an MoU with the School of Planning and Architecture to assist in the design and technical development of the ambitious project.
The proposed relocation marks a major transformation in Uttar Pradesh’s administrative infrastructure and reflects the state government’s push toward modernization, digital governance, and integrated urban planning.
