Lucknow— The Faculty of Law, Second Campus, University of Lucknow, organized a series of events to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India. As part of the Sardar Patel@150 pre-event celebrations, the second day featured a quiz and poster-making competition, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students. Earlier, on October 30, an essay competition on various aspects of Sardar Patel’s life was held under the guidance of Dr. Shashi Prabha Joshi, Programme Officer, NSS Unit.
Under the direction of Prof. (Dr.) Ramesh Kumar Verma, Dean and Head, the NSS unit of the Faculty remains dedicated to nurturing national spirit, social responsibility, and service among students. Faculty members Dr. Niharika, Dr. Bhavana, and Dr. Anjali Singh attended as observers and served as sources of motivation for volunteers.
The main celebrations began with the University’s active participation in the “Run for Unity” rally organized by the Raj Bhavan, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Manuka Khanna, faculty members, and students. The University also held an “Ekta Parade”, beginning with floral tributes at the statue of Sardar Patel at the Faculty of Fine Arts, proceeding through various hostels, and concluding with a garland ceremony at the statue of Acharya Narendra Dev near the administrative building.
A cultural ceremony and lecture series on the ideas and philosophy of Sardar Patel were organized at the Harikrishna Awasthi Auditorium. The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Vice Chancellor Prof. Khanna. Students, including Diksha Yadav, Ankit Yadav, and Mohini, shared their reflections on Patel’s contributions.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Nandlal Bharti, who emphasized Patel’s vision behind the creation of the All India Civil Services, describing them as the backbone of nation-building. Prof. S.A. Rizvi, in his insightful talk, highlighted Patel’s patriotism, shaped by his family’s participation in the freedom movement, and recounted inspiring anecdotes from his early life.
Prof. Anoop Bharati, Additional Director, Cultural Affairs, delivered the welcome address, while Prof. Ashok Kumar Kaithal, Additional Dean, Student Welfare, proposed the vote of thanks. The event witnessed the gracious presence of eminent faculty members including Prof. V.K. Sharma, Prof. Anoop Singh, Dr. Anand Pandey, along with a large gathering of students.
The celebrations reflected the University’s continued commitment to promoting national unity, civic responsibility, and the timeless legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
