Thought Conclave on Financial Literacy Highlights Women’s Empowerment at Rohilkhand University

Bareilly: A grand thought conclave on “Beyond Academic Degrees: Women Empowerment through Financial Literacy” was organized at the Prof. S. B. Singh Auditorium of the Department of Management at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University. The event was held under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. P. Singh.

The programme began with a formal welcome and felicitation of guests, followed by a motivating cultural presentation titled “Nari Shakti: Courage and Change.” In her welcome address, Prof. Archana Gupta emphasized that higher education alone is not sufficient in today’s world, and financial empowerment of women is equally essential. Prof. Shobhana Singh highlighted initiatives under Mission Shakti, while Prof. Anita Tyagi outlined the objectives of the conclave as a platform for sharing real-life experiences.

The thought conclave session emerged as the central highlight, where distinguished women from diverse fields shared their insights. Pushpalata Gupta stressed that disability is not a limitation but a challenge, sharing her initiatives in forming self-help groups for economically weaker women. Amita Agarwal noted that nearly 40% of her organization’s supply chain is supported by such groups, reinforcing dignity and self-reliance.

Focusing on financial awareness, Neha Sahni urged caution in online transactions and verification of digital platforms, while Dr. Seema Singh highlighted concerns around women’s inability to spend adequately on healthcare.

From the sports sector, Shalini Goyal emphasized that true empowerment lies in access to opportunities, advocating financial literacy education from school level, including property and financial rights. Ramandeep Kaur shared the “50-30-20” rule for balanced financial planning, while Pushpa Singh discussed skill training and employment initiatives in rural areas.

Offering a global perspective, Chiali Chen highlighted the importance of financial knowledge in global markets. Jaya Chawla shared her journey of overcoming business losses through disciplined budgeting, and Taruna Yadav stressed early savings habits and maintaining a healthy saving-spending ratio.

During the session, Sharda Bhargava remarked that economic dependence remains one of the biggest barriers to women’s empowerment, while Arohi Sharma suggested using podcasts and media platforms to spread financial awareness. Dr. Shashi Rathi added that financial literacy is equally vital in the arts sector.

Several academicians including Dr. Priya Saxena, Dr. Inderpreet Kaur, Dr. Iram Naeem, Dr. Preeti Yadav, Dr. Hema Verma, and Dr. Jyoti Pandey also shared their views during the event.

The programme featured an impactful street play titled “Nari Shakti: Soch se Samman tak”, which deeply resonated with the audience. The event was effectively anchored by Dr. Meeta Gupta and Apoorva, while its smooth execution was ensured by Lavi Prabhu.

In his presidential address, Prof. K. P. Singh underlined that along with education, financial understanding and management are crucial for true empowerment of women. The programme concluded with the distribution of mementos and certificates, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Tulika Saxena.
