Thailand: According to official figures released on Thursday, Thailand’s incentives for foreign film production brought in approximately 2.87 billion baht (or around 88.32 million US dollars) during the 2024 fiscal year.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) reports that during the fiscal year that ends in September, 15 foreign films benefitted from the cash rebate incentive program, generating more over 43,000 employment in the film and allied sectors of the Southeast Asian nation.
With a ceiling of 150 million baht (about 4.61 million dollars) per production, Thailand’s cash rebate incentive program was launched in 2017 and offers up to 20 percent reimbursements to filmmakers who spend a minimum of 50 million baht (roughly 1.53 million dollars) in the country.
According to DOT Director-General Jaturon Phakdeewanit, over 22 more film and television productions have applied for the rebate. These large-scale projects are expected to generate over 7.05 billion baht (roughly 217 million dollars) in revenue, highlighting Thailand’s rising stature as a significant hub for international film production in the region, according to Xinhua news agency.
According to a statement from Jaturon, Thailand is still dedicated to strengthening its position as a leader in the international film industry, expanding its job market, and drawing attention to its rich cultural legacy and travel attractions.
