Bareilly: Preparations for the 24th Convocation Ceremony of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University have begun with the launch of a series of cultural competitions and educational activities for students studying in schools located in villages adopted by the university.
The initiative has been undertaken under the inspiration of Chancellor and Governor of Uttar Pradesh Anandiben Patel and under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. P. Singh. The programme is being coordinated by the University Cultural Centre as part of the activities leading up to the convocation ceremony.
Providing details of the initiative, Cultural Coordinator Dr. Jyoti Pandey said that, in accordance with directions received from Raj Bhavan, competitions and cultural activities are being organized in primary, upper primary, high school, and intermediate schools located in the university’s adopted villages.
The competitions have been divided into two categories—students of Classes 3 to 8 and students of Classes 9 to 12. Events include speech, painting, story writing and storytelling, essay writing, patriotic songs, folk dance performances, poetry recitation, and other literary and cultural activities.
For students of Classes 3 to 8, topics have been carefully selected to be both educational and engaging. These include My School, Nature, My Best Friend, Patriotism, and Books: Our True Friends. For students of Classes 9 to 12, the themes focus on contemporary and socially relevant subjects such as developmental achievements in their villages in areas like education, water conservation and sanitation, environmental protection, modern scientific innovations, patriotism, and the use of technology in education.
University officials stated that the primary objective of these competitions is to encourage creativity, artistic expression, writing skills, public speaking abilities, and overall personality development among students. The initiative is also intended to strengthen students’ confidence and provide them with a platform to showcase their talents.

A special attraction of the programme is that the winners securing top positions in the speech, painting, and story-writing competitions will not only be felicitated during the university’s convocation ceremony but their work will also be compiled and published in book form. In addition, an exhibition of the best paintings created by participating students will be organized to showcase their artistic talent.
The competitions and cultural activities are being conducted from July 1 to July 15, 2026, under the supervision of the University Cultural Centre. According to organizers, students have shown tremendous enthusiasm in participating, while school principals and teachers are extending full support to ensure the success of the programme.
University authorities believe that the initiative will play an important role in nurturing creativity, promoting cultural values, and inspiring young minds to contribute positively to society. The programme is also expected to strengthen the university’s outreach efforts in rural areas while providing students with opportunities for recognition at a prestigious academic platform.
