Lucknow: The Information and Public Relations Department, Uttar Pradesh, observed the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Lal Bahadur Shastri with reverence and dignity at its headquarters in Lucknow.
The programme, held at the department’s auditorium under the guidance of Information Director Vishal Singh, began with Additional Director Arvind Kumar Mishra offering floral tributes to portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Officers and employees also paid their respects. Gandhi’s favourite bhajan, “Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye,” was recited during the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Mishra highlighted the contributions and values of both national leaders. He described Gandhi’s life as an embodiment of truth, non-violence, sacrifice and simplicity, noting his use of Satyagraha as a means of peaceful resistance during India’s freedom struggle. He also highlighted Gandhi’s emphasis on cleanliness and its continuing relevance.
Speaking about Shastri, Mishra said his journey from a humble background to the country’s highest political office reflected his integrity, simplicity and commitment to duty. He recalled the enduring slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”, which emphasised the importance of national security and food security.
Mishra said October 2 marked the birth of two leaders who played distinct but significant roles in shaping modern India. He urged department personnel to incorporate Gandhi’s commitment to truth and non-violence and Shastri’s simplicity and dedication into their professional conduct.
