Mumbai Indians Secure Dominant Victory Over UP Warriors in WPL 2025

Lucknow: Mumbai Indians registered an emphatic six-wicket victory over UP Warriors in the 16th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, thanks to stellar performances from Amelia Kerr and Hayley Matthews. Kerr’s outstanding five-wicket haul (5-38) and Matthews’ all-round display (2-25 and 68 off 46 balls) helped Mumbai comfortably chase down a target of 151 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.

UP vs MI WPL 2025: Hayley Matthews Shines Bright

Opting to bat first, UP Warriors got off to a fantastic start in the season. Georgia Voll played a pivotal knock, scoring 55 off 33 balls. The opening pair stitched together a strong 74-run partnership. However, Mumbai’s bowlers made a remarkable comeback, with Kerr dismissing key batters and preventing the home team from capitalizing on their solid start.

Matthews also played a crucial role with the ball, picking up key wickets and maintaining pressure in the middle overs. Despite their strong start, UP Warriors lost momentum in the latter half of their innings, managing only 150/9 in 20 overs. Voll’s half-century stood out as the lone significant contribution in an otherwise faltering batting lineup.

Mumbai’s chase began on a promising note, with Amelia Kerr opening alongside Hayley Matthews. Kerr survived an early scare when she was dismissed off a no-ball but eventually fell to Chinelle Henry for 10 (13). Nat Sciver-Brunt then joined Matthews, and the duo quickly took control of the chase.

Matthews, in sublime form, played aggressive shots, including consecutive boundaries off Sophie Ecclestone. She raced to her half-century in just 35 balls, propelling Mumbai towards a comfortable victory.

While Matthews continued her attacking approach, she eventually fell for a well-made 68 (46). Sciver-Brunt also contributed significantly before being dismissed for 37 (23) by Grace Harris. However, Yastika Bhatia ensured Mumbai’s triumph by hitting the winning boundary. Mumbai Indians reached the target in 18.2 overs, securing a six-wicket victory and strengthening their position in the tournament.
