Lucknow – The Lucknow Police have successfully apprehended a key suspect involved in a series of vehicle thefts in the city, following a month-long investigation. The incidents, which involved the theft of Daala trucks, pickup vehicles, and three Wheelers, occurred in various locations under the jurisdiction of Madeyganj Police Station throughout September 2024. Several cases had been registered in connection to these thefts, leading to a dedicated police operation to trace the stolen vehicles and arrest the accused.
Breakthrough in the Investigation
On the morning of October 16, 2024, a local police team, acting on intelligence provided by a special informer, arrested Sundaram Shukla alias Ajit Shukla (19), a resident of Shivpuri village, Hardoi district, and a current tenant near Paragi Temple, Faizullahganj, under Madiyaon Police Station, Lucknow. Shukla was taken into custody from a paan shop near Khadra Chungi at approximately 10:20 AM.
Upon intense interrogation, Shukla confessed to being involved in multiple vehicle thefts. He provided critical information regarding the location of stolen vehicles, leading to the recovery of a pickup truck linked to FIR No. 136/2024 (Section 303(2) BNS) from near Sanjhiya Ghat.
Multiple Vehicle Thefts Uncovered
During the investigation, Shukla revealed further details about other stolen vehicles, including:
- Shree Wheeler (UP32 JN 9028) stolen from near Paras Hospital.
- Daala (UP32 JN 5360) stolen from near Shivnagar Slope.
Shukla admitted to having hidden the stolen vehicles in Sitapur and Hardoi districts, where they were to be sold. Upon tracing the vehicles, the police discovered:
- Three Wheeler (UP32 JN 9028) abandoned in the jurisdiction of Atrauli Police Station, Hardoi.
- Daala (UP32 JN 5360) abandoned at Gadhi Tiraha Manua Road, under Ataria Police Station, Sitapur.
Registered FIRs and Legal Proceedings
The following cases have been registered against the arrested individual and his accomplices:
- FIR No. 136/2024 under Section 303(2)/317(2) BNS, Madeyganj Police Station.
- FIR No. 132/2024 under Section 303(2) BNS, Madeyganj Police Station.
- FIR No. 126/2024 under Section 303(2) BNS, Madeyganj Police Station.
The Lucknow Police have taken necessary legal action against Sundaram Shukla, and the investigation continues to trace other possible accomplices involved in the thefts. Further interrogation is expected to reveal details of the larger vehicle theft ring operating in the region.
Police Commend Public Cooperation
In a statement, Inspector P. S. Verma of Madeyganj Police Station praised the police team’s diligence and the cooperation from local informants that led to the suspect’s arrest and recovery of stolen vehicles. “We are committed to maintaining law and order and will continue to crack down on organized theft in the region,” Inspector Verma said.
The investigation into other possible stolen vehicles and the involvement of additional suspects is ongoing. Police have intensified patrolling in key areas prone to such thefts and have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities immediately.
