Gurugram: Software Engineer Dies by Suicide, Wife Found Dead in Rented Apartment

Gurugram: A 30-year-old software engineer allegedly died by suicide after killing his 28-year-old wife at their rented apartment in Sector 68 of Gurugram, police said. The couple, originally from Kerala, had recently moved to the city from Bengaluru.

The engineer, Mohammad Aslam, was employed with an Indonesia-based technology company operating an office in Gurugram’s Sector 58. His wife, Farhana, was a homemaker.

According to police, Aslam sent an email to his office and colleagues at around 7 am on October 15, describing it as his “last day on earth” and referring to his mental health struggles. The email also reportedly contained emergency contact details for his father, two relatives and the landlord, with a request that they be informed.

Concerned by the message, his colleagues attempted to contact the people listed in the email and alerted the police. A police team, accompanied by the apartment society’s maintenance staff and the engineer’s colleagues, reached the residence.

The team found Aslam hanging from a ceiling fan, while Farhana was lying motionless on the floor with injury marks on her neck.

Police suspect strangulation

Police suspect that Aslam strangled his wife with a rope before dying by suicide. A rope recovered near her body was taken into consideration as part of the investigation. Investigators are also examining the possibility that the woman was poisoned before being strangled.

The exact sequence of events has not yet been established. Police said the post-mortem examinations would help determine the circumstances and timing of the deaths.

Forensic teams collected evidence from the apartment, while mobile phones and laptops recovered from the residence were seized and sent for forensic analysis.

The bodies were taken to the civil hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.

Investigation underway

Investigators are examining the email sent by Aslam, along with electronic devices and forensic evidence, to reconstruct the events leading up to the deaths.

Police are also looking into the mental health concerns mentioned in the email as part of the investigation. The findings of the post-mortem examinations and forensic analysis are expected to provide further clarity.

The investigation is ongoing, and the precise circumstances surrounding the deaths remain subject to confirmation by the authorities.
