New Delhi: New Delhi is set to host the second edition of the Khelo India Para Games from March 20 to 27, as announced by the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya. The event will witness participation from several top para-athletes across the world.
1,230 Para Athletes to Compete in Six Disciplines
Approximately 1,230 para-athletes will compete in six sporting disciplines, including medalists from the Paris Paralympics 2024 and the Asian Para Games 2022 held in Hangzhou, China.
Venues for Sporting Events
According to the official schedule, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium will host Para Athletics, Para Archery, and Para Powerlifting from March 21 to 26. Meanwhile, the Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex will conduct Para Badminton and Para Table Tennis events from March 20 to 27.
The Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range is set to host Para Shooting competitions from March 21 to 25.
Khelo India Para Games: A Key Initiative Under Khelo India Mission
The Khelo India Para Games is an integral part of the Khelo India Mission, aimed at providing a platform for talented athletes to showcase their skills and competitiveness on a national stage. The inaugural edition of the Games was successfully conducted in December 2023 in New Delhi.
In the 2023 edition, Haryana topped the medal tally with 40 gold, 39 silver, and 26 bronze medals, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in second and third place, respectively.
India’s Paralympic Success and Khelo India Athletes’ Contribution
India’s 84-member contingent for the Paris Paralympics 2024 included 25 Khelo India athletes, five of whom returned with medals. India achieved a record-breaking 29 medals at the Paris Paralympics.
Khelo India Para Games 2025: A Major National Sporting Event
Following the Khelo India Winter Games, the Khelo India Para Games 2025 will be the second national sporting event organized by the Sports Authority of India. The upcoming edition in March 2025 will feature competitions in six sports categories, reaffirming the government’s commitment to promoting para-sports at the national level.
