Kanpur Janata Darshan Turns Emotional as Child’s ‘Broken Piggy Bank’ Story Moves District Magistrate

Kanpur: An emotional moment during the Janata Darshan programme at the Kanpur Collectorate touched officials and visitors alike after an 11-year-old girl narrated how her cherished piggy bank was allegedly broken during a family dispute.

The incident unfolded during the public grievance hearing conducted by Jitendra Pratap Singh in Kanpur, when a woman named Shanno arrived with her daughters, Iswa Khan and Mariyam Fatima, seeking help regarding a domestic conflict.

While the complaint initially related to a family dispute, the conversation took an emotional turn when details emerged about young Iswa’s clay piggy bank. According to the mother, the child had been carefully saving small amounts of money for months. The girl reportedly collected coins and leftover pocket money, along with cash gifts received from relatives, hoping to eventually buy a new school bag and essential study materials.

The woman alleged that during the course of the domestic dispute, household belongings were damaged and the child’s piggy bank was also broken open, with the savings taken away.

When the District Magistrate asked the girl about the incident, she innocently explained that she used to save a little money every day in the hope of purchasing items for school. Her simple and heartfelt response reportedly left many people present at the grievance hearing visibly emotional.

The family informed officials that a complaint had earlier been submitted to the local police station, but they claimed no concrete action had been taken. Following the interaction, Jitendra Pratap Singh directed the officer in charge of the Jajmau police station to investigate the matter and take necessary action.

In a gesture that drew appreciation from those present, the District Magistrate later invited both children to sit with him and personally gifted them a new clay piggy bank and school bag. He also placed ₹1,000 into the new piggy bank to encourage the children to continue the habit of saving.

The thoughtful gesture instantly transformed the mood of the young girls, whose sadness turned into smiles as they received the gifts. The emotional exchange became one of the most talked-about moments of the Janata Darshan session, leaving a lasting impression on people gathered at the collectorate.
