Antony Varghese starrer sparks fan theories, cinematic universe buzz ahead of release
Mumbai: Following the massive success and cult popularity of Marco, audiences have been eagerly watching what production house Cubes Entertainments would unveil next. Their upcoming pan-India action thriller Kaattalan is now generating significant excitement even before its theatrical release on May 28, 2026.
The Malayalam action spectacle has already secured the top spot on IMDb’s list of the Most Anticipated Indian Movies of 2026, underlining the growing buzz around the film across audiences and industries alike.
Headlined by Antony Varghese in an intense new avatar, Kaattalan promises a darker, larger and more emotionally layered cinematic experience. Early glimpses from the trailer have drawn attention for their grand visuals, gritty storytelling and high-scale action sequences.
What has fueled even more curiosity, however, is the speculation surrounding a possible connection between Marco and Kaattalan. Since the film’s announcement, fans on social media have been actively discussing theories about a shared cinematic universe, especially after the reveal of Siddique’s character poster. While the makers have remained tight-lipped, the ongoing fan discussions have only intensified anticipation.
Producer Shareef Muhammed said the team aimed to create a cinematic world that feels expansive yet emotionally grounded.
“With Kaattalan, we wanted to create a world that feels larger, more unpredictable and emotionally immersive, while still retaining the raw intensity audiences connected with in Marco. We pushed ourselves to bring action sequences and visuals on a scale audiences usually associate with international action films. There’s action, suspense, emotions and mystery, and we believe audiences will slowly discover that there’s much more to this film than what has been revealed so far,” he shared.
One of the film’s biggest highlights is expected to be its action design. The sequences were choreographed in Thailand by internationally acclaimed stunt director Kecha Khamphakdee, best known for his work in the Ong-Bak franchise.

Speaking about the project, Antony Varghese described Kaattalan as one of the most challenging and exciting films of his career.
“The character has many layers, and the world of the film feels intense and unpredictable. Even before release, watching fans connect theories and discuss possible links with Marco has been exciting. It feels like audiences are already stepping into the world we created, and that makes this journey very special,” he said.
Directed by debutant Paul George, the film also features a strong ensemble cast. Alongside Antony Varghese, the movie stars Dushara Vijayan as the female lead, while Sunil — known for his performances in Pushpa and Jailer — plays a key role. Kabir Duhan Singh, who gained popularity among Malayalam audiences after Marco, is also part of the cast.
The music has been composed by Ravi Basrur, celebrated for blockbuster films such as K.G.F and Salaar, with additional songs by B. Ajaneesh Loknath.
Meanwhile, Shemaroo Entertainment has joined the project as the digital and satellite distribution partner, helping expand the film’s reach across multiple markets after its theatrical release.
At a time when Malayalam cinema continues to gain nationwide and global recognition, Kaattalan appears poised to become one of the biggest and most talked-about Indian releases of 2026, blending large-scale action, emotional storytelling and fan-driven intrigue into a highly anticipated cinematic event.
