Gonda: In a major effort to strengthen road safety and enforce traffic regulations, the Transport Department, in coordination with the Traffic Police, conducted a joint road safety and traffic enforcement campaign at Munnan Khan Chauraha in Gonda district on Saturday.
The drive was led by Assistant Regional Transport Officer (Administration) R.C. Bhartiya, along with the Circle Officer (Traffic) and Traffic Inspector, Gonda. The campaign aimed to reduce road accidents, ensure compliance with traffic rules, and raise public awareness about safe driving practices.
During the enforcement operation, officials carried out intensive checks on vehicles for violations such as driving without a valid licence, riding without a helmet, and other breaches of traffic regulations. As a result, 21 two-wheelers were seized, while 168 vehicles were issued challans for various traffic offences.
Special attention was given to vehicles carrying passengers for social events and educational institutions. During the inspection, a school bus being used to transport passengers for a wedding function was found operating without valid permit and fitness certification. Owing to serious violations of safety norms, the bus was seized by the authorities. Additionally, four other vehicles engaged in wedding-related transportation were penalised after safety lapses were detected.

Officials also took strict action against dangerous and overcrowded transport practices. A six-seater Bolero vehicle was found carrying nearly 20 passengers while being driven at high speed, posing a significant risk to public safety. Considering the severity of the violation, the vehicle was seized and impounded at Itiyathok Police Station.
Transport and traffic officials reiterated that reckless driving, overloading, and violations of safety regulations would not be tolerated, as such practices endanger the lives of passengers and other road users.
The administration appealed to the public to strictly follow traffic rules, wear helmets and seat belts, avoid overloading vehicles, and drive responsibly. Officials stressed that collective adherence to road safety norms is essential to reducing accidents and ensuring safer roads for everyone.
