Washington, DC [USA]: Ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, Indiaspora, a prominent Indian diaspora organization in the US, issued a statement congratulating the new administration. The group highlighted the increasing political influence of the Indian-American community and celebrated key appointments of Indian Americans to significant roles in President Trump’s second term.
Growing Influence of Indian Americans
Since its inception in 2012, Indiaspora has been focused on nonpartisan political engagement and fostering US-India relations. The organization expressed pride in the growing impact of Indian Americans in the US political landscape.
The statement particularly acknowledged several notable appointments in the new administration, including:
- Dr. Jay Bhattacharya as Director of the National Institutes of Health
- Sriram Krishnan as Senior AI Advisor
- Vivek Ramaswamy as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), alongside Tesla CEO Elon Musk
- Kash Patel as FBI Director nominee
- Harmeet Kaur Dhillon as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights
“Indian Americans’ increasing impact is evident given the significant appointments made in technology, national security, and civil rights during President Trump’s second term. We extend our congratulations to these appointees and look forward to their contributions,” the statement said.
Strengthening US-India Relations
MR Rangaswami, founder and chairman of Indiaspora, highlighted the close ties between the US and India. “I congratulate President Trump on behalf of the Indian-American community. Under the current political environment, US-Indian relations are expected to grow even stronger. During President Trump’s first term, senior government officials on both sides developed robust relationships, supported by bipartisan commitment to this bilateral partnership,” Rangaswami stated.
A Tradition of Representation
Sanjeev Joshipura, Indiaspora’s executive director, emphasized the organization’s ongoing efforts to enhance civic and political participation among Indian Americans. He also commended the bipartisan tradition of appointing Indian Americans to prominent government roles.
“Over the years, Indiaspora has prioritized strengthening US-India relations and broadening the Indian diaspora’s civic participation. The new Trump administration has continued this tradition by appointing Indian Americans to high positions. We are poised to further promote bilateral discussions, just as we did in New Delhi and Houston during President Trump’s earlier term,” Joshipura remarked.
