Lucknow — The 102nd anniversary of the Kakori Train Action was observed with grandeur at the Shaheed Smarak Sthal in Lucknow today. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Shri Keshav Prasad Maurya paid tribute to the immortal martyrs, released a book on the historic event, and honored the families of freedom fighters during the ceremony chaired by Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath.
Speaking at the Kakori Shaheed Mandir, Deputy CM Maurya garlanded the statues of the martyrs and offered floral tributes to the brave revolutionaries who laid down their lives for India’s independence. As part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, he also planted a sapling and inaugurated an exhibition marking Kakori Train Action Day.
A key highlight of the event was the release of ‘Kakori Train Action’, a book documenting the glorious history and the lives, struggles, and sacrifices of the immortal revolutionaries involved in the 1925 action.
Families of Martyrs Honored
During the program, the dependents and family members of martyrs and freedom fighters were felicitated. Those honored included the families of:
– Captain Manoj Pandey
– Lance Naik Kewala Nand Dwivedi
– Rifleman Sunil Jung
– Shri Shiv Narayan Gupta
– Shri Ram Krishna Khatri
– Shachindranath Bakhshi
– Thakur Roshan Singh
– Ashfaqulla Khan
– Late Kunwar Singh Chaudhary
– Late Raja Singh
and other freedom fighters and martyrs.
“Sacrifice of Kakori Martyrs is Nation’s Invaluable Heritage”: Dy CM
Addressing the gathering, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya said, “Kakori Train Action Day reminds us of the indomitable courage, unwavering patriotism, sacrifice, and supreme martyrdom of our immortal revolutionaries. The soil of Kakori stands witness to the glorious history of India’s freedom struggle.”
He added that the martyrdom of Kakori’s heroes is not just a chapter of history but an “invaluable heritage of the nation and a source of inspiration for future generations.” Their sacrifice gave new energy to the freedom movement and today’s observance reminds us of our duties and responsibilities toward the nation.
Stressing the need to pass on the ideals of these revolutionaries to the youth, Maurya said children and young people must learn from their sacrifice, struggle, discipline, courage, and love for the country. “The memories of the Kakori Train Action will continue to strengthen the spirit of unity, integrity, and patriotism in the country,” he said.
The Deputy CM also noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is working to honor its glorious heritage and the heroes of the freedom struggle. The Uttar Pradesh government, he said, is committed to preserving the memories of martyrs and taking their contributions to every citizen.
Call for a Developed India
In the Amrit Kaal of independence, Maurya urged everyone to contribute toward building a developed, self-reliant, prosperous, and strong India — the dream envisioned by the martyrs. “The responsibility of building that India now rests on the shoulders of the present generation,” he said.
The event also featured cultural performances based on the lives and sacrifices of the martyrs. Patriotic presentations by children and artists filled the venue with national fervor and helped the large number of students present learn about the country’s freedom struggle.
