Hyderabad: A Revanth Reddy, the Chief Minister, requested that Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya grant Hyderabad the privilege to host the 2026 Khelo India Games.
The Center was asked to host the Khelo India Games in Hyderabad by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. Since the decision to host the games in Bihar in 2025 had already been made, Union Minister Mandaviya promised to host the games in 2026 even though the chief minister asked to host them the next year. On Thursday, the Union Minister received the formal plea from AP Jitender Reddy, the special representative of the state administration.
In the letter, Revanth Reddy said that Hyderabad hosted several national-level contests, including the 7th World Military Games, the Afro-Asian Games, and the 32nd National Games (in 2002). In the letter, CM Revanth Reddy reaffirmed that all the infrastructure required to host national-level tournaments was in place and that the current administration was giving the sports sector greater emphasis than it had during the previous 10 years of control.
A multipurpose indoor stadium (air-conditioned) in Saroornagar, a synthetic tennis court, a skating track, an outdoor stadium, an indoor stadium at LB Stadium along with a tennis complex, a football ground, KVBR indoor stadium, a facility for organizing water sports at Hussain Sagar, a cycling velodrome, a synthetic athletic track, a swimming pool, a skating track, a football ground at Gymkhana-2 ground, and facilities for organizing outdoor games are a few of the sports complexes in Gachibowli, CM Revanth reminded in the letter.
CM Revanth emphasized that since 2018, the Center has been prioritizing the growth of sports and has been hosting the Khelo India Youth Games, Winter Games, Para Games, and University Games annually. He reminded everyone that this year’s budget had 10 times more money set up for sports than it did the previous year. In addition to the infrastructure needed to organize sports, he said, there are several renowned star hotels and other lodging options, as well as rail and aviation capabilities to get to the players.
The letter said that the Chief Minister is in charge of that department and that the State government is not only prioritizing sports but is also creating a unique program to support young people. Jitender Reddy emphasized that Telangana has distinguished itself from other states in a number of areas, including the economy, and that the state administration is well aware of the importance of hosting sporting events and developing the future’s top athletes.
