Lucknow: Villages across Uttar Pradesh witnessed vibrant democratic participation as National Panchayati Raj Day was celebrated with enthusiasm, turning chaupals into hubs of discussion, planning, and collective decision-making.
From gram panchayats to district headquarters, a series of programmes highlighted the importance of grassroots governance, public participation, and rural development. The celebrations reflected the core strength of India’s Loktantra—its deep roots in village institutions.
Special Gram Sabhas Held Across the State
On the occasion, special Gram Sabha meetings were organised in villages throughout the state. Rural residents actively participated, offering suggestions on:
- Local development projects
- Resolution of community issues
- Effective implementation of government schemes
These meetings reinforced the spirit of participatory and accountable governance at the panchayat level, ensuring that development priorities align with the needs of local communities.
Recognition of Panchayat Leaders
At district-level events, village heads (Gram Pradhans) and panchayat assistants were felicitated for their exemplary work. Officials praised their contributions and encouraged them to continue delivering transparent and efficient governance.

As per the guidelines of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, the programmes also included:

- Review of progress under the Panchayat Development Index
- Localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Promotion of women’s empowerment
- Enhancing public participation in sanitation and development initiatives
“Empowered Panchayats Are the Foundation of Strong Democracy”
State Panchayati Raj Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar подчеркнул that the day serves as an opportunity to strengthen the roots of democracy.
“Panchayats are the foundation of rural development. Empowering them is essential for building a strong and inclusive democracy. Our goal is to ensure every panchayat becomes transparent, accountable, and self-reliant,” he said.
