- This scheme, funded by the Government of India, is being implemented in 45 districts

Lucknow: Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Horticulture, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Foreign Trade and Agricultural Export, Dinesh Pratap Singh said that to encourage garlic cultivation in the state, the government has made a special scheme under the Integrated Horticulture Development Mission.
This mission is funded by the Government of India and is being implemented in 45 districts. These districts include Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Bareilly, Moradabad, Agra, Mathura, Mainpuri, Hathras, Kanpur, Etawah, Kannauj, Lucknow, Unnao, Sitapur, Rae Bareli, Barabanki, Sultanpur, Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Siddharth Nagar, Ballia, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Banda, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Chitrakoot, Mahoba, Lalitpur, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Bhadohi, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Ayodhya and Farrukhabad.
Under this mission, the central share has been fixed at 60 percent and the state share at 40 percent.
Under this scheme, the permissible unit cost of Rs 30 thousand per hectare has been fixed by the Horticulture Department in the state.
In this, farmers will be given a subsidy of 40 percent per hectare, i.e. a maximum of Rs 12,000. This subsidy will be available on land ranging from a minimum of 0.2 hectares to a maximum of 4.0 hectares per farmer. Garlic seed will be made available to farmers by the National Horticulture Research and Development Institute, New Delhi. The price of the seed has been kept between Rs 370 to Rs 390 per kg.
Farmers can avail the benefits of this scheme on first come first serve basis. Interested farmers will have to contact the District Horticulture Officer’s office of their district. Along with this, farmers can also register online on the official website of the department http://dbt.uphorticulture.in to register in the scheme.
Keeping in view the increasing demand for garlic and its quality, the state government has set a target of cultivating garlic in an additional area of 10 thousand hectares under the Spices Area Expansion Program. The proposal of this scheme for the financial year 2024-25 was sent to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Horticulture Section, Government of India, on which the Central Government has granted permission.
