Lucknow: In a significant initiative to promote performing arts among children and young enthusiasts, the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi, under the Department of Culture, Government of Uttar Pradesh, in collaboration with Mother Seva Sansthan, has launched a 15-day free summer theatre workshop under the Kala Samvardhan scheme.
The workshop commenced on Tuesday at the Chabutra Theatre Pathshala in Kotwa (Ward No. 10), located in the Bakshi Ka Talab area of Lucknow. Designed to introduce aspiring young artists to the fundamentals of theatre, the programme aims to foster creativity, confidence, and artistic expression among participants.
Renowned film actor and young theatre practitioner Mahesh Chandra Deva is serving as the chief trainer for the workshop. On the opening day, he conducted intensive sessions on facial expressions, dialogue delivery, voice modulation, and stage presence. Through interactive exercises and practical demonstrations, participants were introduced to the essential techniques of acting and performance.
To help children overcome stage fear and develop confidence, Mahesh Chandra Deva incorporated music-based theatre activities into the training. Participants enthusiastically took part in group exercises based on popular songs such as “Saare Ke Saare Ga Ma Ko Lekar Gaate Chale” and “Kahab To Lagi Jai Dhak Se,” combining rhythm, expression, and movement in a fun learning environment.
The workshop has attracted around 20 budding artists from the region. Among the participants are Krishna, Anuj, Sumit, Anjali, Rajveer, Sudhir, Vishal, Lavkush, Anurag, Sonali, and Sania, along with several other young learners eager to explore the world of theatre.

The training programme will continue until June 3, 2026, with daily sessions from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Throughout the camp, participants will receive comprehensive exposure to various aspects of theatre, including acting, stage management, voice training, character development, and theatrical presentation.
Organizers said the workshop is intended not only to develop artistic skills but also to strengthen communication abilities, teamwork, and self-confidence among children. They expressed hope that such initiatives would encourage greater participation in cultural activities and help identify emerging talent from local communities.
The organizing committee has invited art enthusiasts, parents, and local residents to support and encourage the young participants as they embark on their theatrical journey through this unique cultural and educational initiative.
