New Delhi: The Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has extended for three days, the ED custody of K. Kavita, daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister KCR, in the Delhi Excise Scam case. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja gave this order. During today’s hearing, lawyer Zoheb Hussain appearing for ED demanded extension of Kavita’s custody by five days. He said that statements of four people have been recorded. Kavita embezzled Rs 100 crore.
Kavita’s mobile data was examined and matched with the forensic report, which revealed that Kavita had deleted the data during the investigation. Hussain said that Kavita’s family did not give any information. Raids are being conducted at Kavita’s nephew’s house. He has sought permission from the court to interrogate Sameer Mahendru to get information about his nephew.
ED told how the profits reached
During the appearance, Kavita’s lawyer Nitish Rana asked how documents would be obtained from Kavita in ED custody. For this, bail will have to be given. We had given arguments during the first appearance. After this Hussain said that those arguments have been rejected. Judicial custody or ED custody does not matter in filing bail. He filed a bail plea on which the ED will file its reply.
On March 16, the court had ordered Kavita to be sent to ED custody till March 23. Kavita was arrested on March 15 following a raid in Hyderabad.
In this case, CBI had arrested Kavita’s CA Buchibabu Gorantla on 8 February 2023. Buchibabu was arrested for his alleged role in the formulation and implementation of the liquor policy and providing ill-gotten gains to Hyderabad-based wholesale and retail licensees. On March 6, 2023, Buchibabu got bail in the CBI case. According to ED, 33 percent of the profits reached Kavita through Indospirits.
Kavita was associated with the lobby South Group of liquor traders. ED had sent summons to Kavita twice for questioning, but Kavita ignored it and did not appear, after which a raid was conducted and she was arrested.
