District Environment, Afforestation and Ganga Committees Review Preparedness Ahead of NGT Visit

Bareilly: A joint meeting of the District Environment Committee, District Afforestation Committee and District Ganga Committee was held at the Collectorate Auditorium under the chairmanship of Additional District Magistrate (City) Avinash Tripathi to review environmental protection measures, afforestation targets and river conservation initiatives across the district.

During the meeting, officials were informed that Dr. Afroz Ahmad, Member and Judicial Officer of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Principal Bench, New Delhi, is scheduled to visit Bareilly on June 8 for inspections and a review meeting. All concerned departments were directed to complete preparations and ensure compliance in matters related to NGT directives.

Municipal bodies were instructed to install e-waste collection bins and strengthen disposal mechanisms in their respective areas. The Bareilly Development Authority and District Panchayat Raj Department were asked to coordinate for effective waste management in residential colonies. The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board was directed to ensure strict adherence to noise pollution regulations.

Officials also reviewed the status of drains flowing through urban areas and directed civic bodies to identify tapped and untapped drains, prevent the discharge of untreated wastewater into rivers, and ensure proper disposal of legacy and solid waste.

Regarding the 2026 Afforestation Campaign, departments yet to complete pit excavation for plantation targets were instructed to finish the work within a week and submit reports to the Divisional Forest Officer. Plans for establishing thematic forests, including Mahashri Charak Van, Samaras Van, Samriddhi Van, Urja Van and Kapi Van, were also discussed.

In the District Ganga Committee meeting, officials from irrigation, panchayati raj, labour and water departments were directed to prepare a restoration plan for the Nakatia River and submit it for onward transmission to the National Mission for Clean Ganga.

Several district-level officers and representatives of municipal bodies attended the meeting.
