Gonda: The Congress in Gonda on Saturday accused the BJP government of failing to control inflation, alleging that rising prices of essential commodities have placed a heavy burden on poor and middle-class families.
Addressing the issue at Congress Bhavan in Gonda, Shahid Ali Qureshi, councillor and president of the Gonda City Congress Committee, said inflation had made it increasingly difficult for ordinary families to manage their household expenses. He claimed that even basic items such as sugar and jaggery were becoming unaffordable for economically weaker sections.
Qureshi alleged that prices of cooking oil, pulses, flour and vegetables, along with expenses on LPG cylinders, petrol, diesel and electricity, had placed additional pressure on household budgets. He accused the BJP government of prioritising the interests of large industrialists while neglecting the concerns of ordinary citizens.
He said the Congress would not remain silent over what he described as “anti-people inflation” and would continue to raise public concerns from the streets to the legislative forums.
“The Congress will become the voice of the people and continue its struggle until the government is compelled to take effective measures to bring down inflation,” Qureshi said.
City Congress spokesperson Vinay Prakash Tripathi, along with Seva Dal’s Anish Nana, Sukai Bharti, Ata Mohammad Ghazi, Zakir Ali, Rajiv Giri, Mohammad Rizwan, Abdul Aziz, Shiv Shankar Kashyap and other party workers and office-bearers were present during the programme.
The Congress’s remarks come amid continuing political debate over the cost of essential commodities and the economic pressures faced by households.
