CDRI Alumni Association Organizes Science Outreach Programme on Drug Discovery at Arya Kanya Pathshala

Lucknow: As part of its commitment to promoting scientific awareness among school students, the CSIR-CDRI Alumni Association organized a Science Outreach Programme at Arya Kanya Pathshala, Nishat Ganj, Lucknow. The programme featured an informative talk titled “Drug Discovery – A Brief Introduction”, aimed at introducing students to the fascinating world of biomedical research and pharmaceutical innovation.

The session was delivered by Dr. Vishnu Lal Sharma and Prof. Archana Talwar, distinguished alumni of CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CSIR-CDRI). They provided students with a comprehensive overview of the drug discovery process, explaining how new medicines are developed—from understanding diseases and identifying therapeutic targets to discovering promising drug molecules, conducting preclinical and clinical studies, obtaining regulatory approvals, and ultimately making safe and effective medicines available to patients.

Using simple language and relatable examples, the speakers explained the scientific principles underlying modern drug development and highlighted the collaborative efforts of researchers, clinicians, and regulatory experts in translating laboratory discoveries into life-saving therapies. They also discussed the importance of innovation, perseverance, and ethical research in addressing global health challenges.

Encouraging the students to develop scientific curiosity and a spirit of inquiry, the speakers emphasized the immense opportunities available in science, technology, and biomedical research. They motivated the young participants to consider careers in scientific research and contribute to the nation’s progress through innovation and discovery.

The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which students enthusiastically engaged with the speakers, seeking insights into scientific research, career opportunities, and the challenges involved in developing new medicines. The active participation of the students reflected their keen interest in science and made the session highly engaging and impactful.

The Science Outreach Programme is part of the ongoing efforts of the CSIR-CDRI Alumni Association to foster scientific temperament among young learners, inspire future scientists, and strengthen the connection between the scientific community and society.
