Bareilly Reviews Fertilizer Availability, Ensures Adequate Supply for Farmers

Bareilly: A meeting of the Fertilizer Management Committee and District-Level Monitoring Committee was held at the Collectorate Auditorium under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Avinash Singh to review fertilizer availability and distribution across the district during the ongoing agricultural season.

During the meeting, the District Agriculture Officer informed the District Magistrate that against the June target of 33,390 metric tonnes of urea, Bareilly district had received 49,229 metric tonnes, significantly exceeding the allocated target. Of this, 21,524 metric tonnes have already been distributed through cooperative societies, sugarcane committees, IFFCO sales centres, and private fertilizer outlets.

Officials reported that sufficient stocks of urea are currently available at cooperative societies, sugarcane committees, IFFCO centres, and private retail outlets. Additionally, 6,633 metric tonnes of urea are available in buffer stock at cooperative department warehouses to meet any future demand.

Addressing the meeting, District Magistrate Avinash Singh emphasized the need for judicious use of fertilizers. He noted that the Uttar Pradesh Government has prescribed a distribution norm of seven bags of urea and five bags of DAP per hectare of agricultural land during the entire crop cycle. He directed fertilizer dealers and officials to advise farmers on the recommended usage before selling fertilizers to ensure balanced nutrient management and avoid excessive application.

The District Magistrate also instructed officials to discourage advance hoarding of urea and DAP. Representatives of IFFCO and KRIBHCO were directed to demonstrate the benefits of Nano Urea, Nano DAP, and compost-based fertilizers through drone spraying demonstrations in farmers’ fields, enabling cultivators to witness the advantages of modern and sustainable agricultural practices firsthand.

Taking a strict stance against irregularities, Mr. Singh warned all centre in-charges and fertilizer dealers against practices such as forced product tagging or overpricing. He stated that any dealer found indulging in such activities would face legal action, including the registration of criminal cases.

To ensure uninterrupted availability, he further directed that urea supplies from the IFFCO plant should be regularly dispatched to cooperative societies on a daily basis.

The meeting was attended by Chief Development Officer Devyani, Deputy Director of Agriculture O.P. Mishra, District Agriculture Officer Ritusha Tiwari, Assistant Commissioner and Assistant Registrar (Cooperation) Brijesh Singh, along with representatives of fertilizer companies and other concerned officials.

The review meeting reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to maintaining an adequate fertilizer supply, promoting balanced fertilizer use, and safeguarding farmers’ interests during the crucial agricultural season.
