Kaikeyi-Manthara Dialogue, Dasharath’s Death and Bharat’s Grief Move Audiences at Sitapur Road Ramlila

Lucknow: The 34th edition of the Ramlila being organised at Sector A, Sitapur Road Yojana Colony, witnessed an emotional portrayal of key episodes from the Ramayana. The performances featured the Kaikeyi-Manthara dialogue, the confrontation between Kaikeyi and King Dasharath, Dasharath’s death and Bharat’s reunion with Lord Ram at Chitrakoot, leaving the audience deeply moved.

The programme began with the aarti of Lord Ram and Lakshman, followed by the Kaikeyi-Manthara episode. Manthara’s influence gradually fuels Kaikeyi’s resentment over Lord Ram’s impending coronation, prompting her to enter the chamber of anger.

When King Dasharath arrives to console her, he finds her distressed and asks why she is lying there in such a state. The performers effectively portrayed Dasharath’s concern and Kaikeyi’s inner conflict as the events leading to Ram’s exile unfolded.

The scene depicting Dasharath’s death, brought on by his anguish over Ram’s exile and separation from his son, proved particularly poignant.

The subsequent episode showed Bharat returning from his maternal grandparents’ home to learn of his father’s death, Ram’s exile and Kaikeyi’s demand for the throne for him. Deeply disturbed, Bharat rejected his mother’s decision and declared that a younger brother could not rule while his elder brother was alive.

Demonstrating his devotion, sacrifice and respect for family values, Bharat then set out for the forest to persuade Ram to return to Ayodhya and accept the throne. The portrayal highlighted the ideals of brotherly love, duty and righteousness that form the central themes of the Ramayana.

The performance brought these timeless values to life through powerful acting and emotionally charged scenes.

Ravi Ranjan Saxena, Virendra Pathak, Umashankar Rathore, Harihar Pandey, Suresh Tiwari, Jitendra Mishra, Shantiswaroop Shukla, Sanjeev, Ramanuj and Atul Mishra were among the prominent people present at the event.
