Bareilly: Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University organised a TB and HPV vaccination awareness programme along with a blood donation camp on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
The formal programme was held at the Training and Placement (T&P) Cell under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Anil Kumar Rai. Registrar Mahendra Kumar, Dean of Student Welfare Prof. Vinay Rishiwal and programme coordinator Dr. Amit Kumar Verma addressed the gathering. Prof. Rai urged students and guests to actively contribute to creating health awareness in society.
A blood donation camp was organised at the university health centre, with the Department of Pharmacy contributing the highest number of blood donations. Prof. Rai later visited the health centre, interacted with donors and thanked them for their contribution. He also distributed nutrition kits to TB patients undergoing treatment.
Prof. Rai said young people should dedicate themselves to social service and play an active role in spreading awareness. He stressed the need to first become aware themselves and then extend health awareness to both rural and urban communities. He called upon youth to follow the principle of “Think Locally, Act Globally” and said, “We have to defeat TB and HPV, not the patient.”
He also highlighted the importance of youth participation in the vision of a developed India, describing young people as important pillars of nation-building.
The Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the ‘One Life, One Blood Club’, an initiative designed to facilitate timely access to blood during emergencies. The club will maintain an organised database of healthy and willing blood donors, including their blood groups, contact details and availability. In an emergency, the network will help connect patients with suitable donors, potentially reducing delays in locating compatible blood.
The club will also encourage students, teachers and citizens to donate blood regularly and expand its donor network through periodic blood donation camps. Its guiding message is “Blood for those in need, respect for the blood donor.”
Dr. Amit Kumar Verma emphasised that nutrition is essential alongside medicines and said a healthy population is fundamental to building a developed nation. Prof. Vinay Rishiwal said collective efforts could help achieve development goals ahead of schedule, adding that the vision of a developed India depends not only on economic growth and infrastructure but also on a healthy population.
Registrar Mahendra Kumar said meaningful awareness requires identifying the root cause of a problem, as lasting solutions cannot be achieved without addressing underlying issues.
The club will operate under the chief patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Anil Kumar Rai, with Dr. Amit Kumar Verma as faculty patron and Naman Kumar Prajapati and Krishangi Kritiya Bora as student patrons.
Student volunteers, including Dhruv Kaushik, Devansh Gupta, Anand Kumar Verma, Uday Gangwar, Danish Maqbool, Sanchit Bhatt, Naman Prajapati and Yashraj Vashishtha, contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.
