Gonda: In a major reshuffle of the district police administration, the Uttar Pradesh government has transferred Gonda Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal to Sultanpur and appointed IPS officer Abhishek Jha as the new SP of Gonda.
According to the transfer orders issued by the state government late Thursday night, Jaiswal has been transferred to Sultanpur as Superintendent of Police after serving in Gonda since December 2023. Jha, who was serving as SP Bijnor, has been moved to Gonda. Meanwhile, Krishna Kumar Bishnoi, who was serving as SP Sambhal, has been appointed the new SP of Bijnor.
Vineet Jaiswal to Take Charge in Sultanpur
Vineet Jaiswal assumed charge as Gonda SP on December 18, 2023. During his tenure, he focused on maintaining law and order, crime control and strengthening policing in the district. He will now take charge of policing in Sultanpur.
Who is New SP Abhishek Jha?
The incoming Gonda SP, IPS Abhishek Jha, is known for his disciplined and firm approach to policing. Born on September 25, 1988, in Katihar, Bihar, Jha completed his schooling in Katihar and Patna before pursuing a BTech from Kozhikode.
After completing his engineering degree, he joined a multinational company in Hyderabad. However, the demanding work schedule affected his health, prompting him to leave the job in 2011 and prepare for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination.
Jha began his civil services preparation in Delhi in 2011. After an unsuccessful first attempt, he cleared the UPSC examination in his third attempt in 2015 and joined the Indian Police Service. He had also been selected for the Indian Railway Service but chose the IPS instead.
During his career, Jha served as an under-trainee in Ayodhya, Jhansi, Agra and Aligarh and later served as DCP Crime in Noida. He became Superintendent of Police in Shamli on June 27, 2022, where he gained attention for his efforts to curb crime. He was appointed SP Bijnor on July 14, 2024.
Known for “Zero Tolerance” Approach
Jha has earned a reputation for strict action against indiscipline and negligence. During his tenure in Bijnor, he reportedly sent 23 constables and head constables to the police lines in a single day over alleged indiscipline.
In another case involving the deaths of four people in Nanghal, action was taken against a Circle Officer and a constable after allegations of a dumper being replaced during the investigation.
His policing approach is associated with the principle of “zero tolerance towards negligence.” His transfer to Gonda is therefore being closely watched, with expectations that he will adopt a firm approach towards crime control, police discipline and negligence at police stations.
The new appointment comes at a time when maintaining law and order and strengthening public confidence in the police remain key priorities for the district administration.
