Rae Bareli: A monthly review meeting of the Special Juvenile Police Unit and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit was held at Kiran Hall on the premises of the Superintendent of Police’s office to assess awareness and child-protection campaigns conducted during the previous month.
Additional Superintendent of Police Alok Kumar reviewed the implementation of various initiatives aimed at protecting children and adolescents, including Operation Raksha, child labour eradication, prevention of child begging, de-addiction and prevention of child marriage. He issued directions for effective and timely implementation of these programmes.
Child Welfare Officers and women police personnel from all police stations were instructed to conduct awareness drives within the prescribed timelines and regularly submit information, photographs and videos of the campaigns to ensure proper monitoring and coordination.
Officials were also directed to identify poor and vulnerable children, women and persons with disabilities involved in or affected by child begging, child labour and substance abuse, and to ensure their protection, rehabilitation and inclusion in an appropriate database.
The meeting also reviewed measures to prevent sexual, physical and emotional abuse of adolescents and other violations of child rights in institutions and places such as gurukuls, ashrams, temples, schools and madrasas. Child Welfare Officers posted at police stations were directed to ensure immediate investigation and appropriate legal action in cases involving serious violations of child rights, along with protective and rehabilitative measures for affected children.
Officials were further instructed to take action against persons who facilitate or involve children in the use of intoxicating substances under Sections 77 and 78 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. Directions were also issued to ensure that minors are produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) or Juvenile Justice Board within the prescribed timeframe along with all required legal documents.
The meeting was attended by Juvenile Justice Board member-magistrate Meenu Srivastava, Child Welfare Committee member and First-Class Judicial Magistrate Milind Dwivedi, Assistant Prosecution Officer, Labour Enforcement Officer Shashi Singh, Legal Probation Officer Pragya Tripathi, District Child Protection Officer Virendra Pal, representatives of the One Stop Centre including Astha Jyoti, Anti-Human Trafficking Police Station in-charge Sub-Inspector Shailendra, Head Woman Constable Sangeeta Mishra, Drug Inspector, Deputy CMO Dr Sadanand, woman medical officer Dr Priyanka, support personnel Ajay Bajpai and Anju, along with Child Welfare Officers and women police personnel from various police stations.
The meeting emphasised coordinated action among police, health, labour, child protection and other departments to strengthen safeguards for children and ensure timely intervention in cases involving exploitation, abuse and trafficking.
