Mumbai: As Border 2 geared up for its World Television Premiere on Zee Cinema this Independence Day, Varun Dhawan reflected on the film’s emotional connection with audiences, his experience of working alongside Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, and the responsibility of portraying the spirit of India’s armed forces. In this special conversation, the actor also shared what he hoped families take away from the film when they watch it together at home.
Q. Border 2 is set for its World Television Premiere on Zee Cinema this Independence Day. Why do you think this is the perfect occasion to bring the film into people’s homes?
I honestly cannot think of a better occasion. Independence Day is a time when every Indian reflects on the sacrifices made by the brave men and women of our armed forces, and Border 2 is a story that pays tribute to that very spirit.
Many people have already experienced the film in theatres, but television has a completely different charm. It brings families together. Watching a film at home with parents, grandparents and children makes the experience even more emotional and meaningful.
I have always received immense love from audiences through my films on Zee Cinema, so returning to them with a film that is extremely close to my heart makes this moment even more special. I am delighted that Zee Cinema is bringing Border 2 to audiences on such an important day, and I hope every family feels the pride, courage and unity reflected in the story.
Q. What was the most memorable experience for you while being part of Border 2?
For me, the most memorable part was the people I got to work with. Sharing the screen with Sunny sir was a matter of immense pride. He carries the legacy of Border with tremendous dignity, and being part of that journey was very special for me.
Working with Diljit and Ahan made the experience even more enjoyable. We developed a genuine bond during the shoot, and that camaraderie made the journey memorable.

At the same time, playing a soldier comes with a tremendous sense of responsibility. We wanted to portray the spirit and dedication of our armed forces with complete honesty and sincerity. Being part of a film that attempts to honour their courage is something I will always be proud of.
Q. After audiences watch Border 2 on Zee Cinema this Independence Day, what would you like them to feel?
More than anything, I want people to come away with a sense of gratitude.
We often celebrate our freedom, but a film like Border 2 reminds us of the people who make that freedom possible every single day. I hope that when families sit together and watch the film, their sense of pride for our soldiers grows even stronger.
I also hope audiences think about the families of our armed forces personnel and understand the sacrifices they make as well. If the film can create that feeling of gratitude and respect among viewers, especially when families watch it together, then there can be no greater achievement for me.
