Governor stresses on importance of blood donation

Lucknow: The program “Raktdaan Ko Samman 2024” was held  at King George Medical University, Lucknow under the chairmanship of the Governor of the state,  Anandiben Patel.

While addressing the program, the Governor said that blood donation is a great donation and everyone should come forward and do this pious work. She said that anyone can need blood, one should never stay away from donating blood. Appreciating various medical institutions and other institutions active in blood donation, she said that gradually people are becoming wise now and they are becoming aware of blood donation.

The Governor appealed to everyone to do yoga on the occasion of International Yoga Day on 21st June and said that wherever camps are organized for yoga, blood donation camps should also be organized there. Explaining the benefits of blood donation, she said that by getting blood tested through blood donation, we also get to know about diseases, for the diagnosis of which we are also motivated to do regular yoga. She gave directions to organize blood donation camps in every college, university and district jails of Uttar Pradesh. While praising the organizations that regularly donate blood, the Governor said that blood donation camps should be organized in the entire country and state by setting targets and youth should be motivated to donate blood.

Addressing the program,  Minister of State for Health and Medical Education,  Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh said that the work of blood donation is possible with the collective cooperation of all the people. Blood donation sends a good message in the society.

On this occasion, Principal Secretary Medical Education  Parthasarathi Sen Sharma described voluntary blood donation as safe blood donation and said that it develops a sense of dedication along with health. He emphasized the need to increase the percentage of blood donation in the state.

On this occasion, Vice Chancellor, KGMU, Professor Sonia Nityanand welcomed all the visitors on the 20th World Blood Donor Day and said that this program will give the message to people to come forward for voluntary blood donation. She said that the youth have to be educated and made aware about blood donation. Mrs. Nityanand also enumerated the benefits of blood donation.

On this occasion, Dr. Tulika Chandra, Head of Department of Transfusion Medicine, KGMU said that blood donation does not cause any weakness and new blood gives more energy. She said that the percentage of safe blood donation in Uttar Pradesh is 30 to 40 percent, which has to be made 100 percent. Giving details of the achievements of the department, she said that the highest annual collection of blood in the country takes place here.

In the program organized, the Governor released the souvenir “Respect for Blood Donation” and blood donors and organizations were also honored by giving certificates. On this occasion, Mission Director National Health Mission, Dr. Pinky Jovel, representatives of organizations active in blood donation, doctors, blood donors and other dignitaries were present.
